secondary hard drive issues

My current HDD setup is 1 primary 120gb drive and 1 Secondary 80gb drive running on the same UATA cable. Now I recently installed the beta 2 of windows Vista from windows XP Pro, before the upgrade both HDD's worked fine and using the computed you could see all the data on each drive.
Now after the files from the vista disc where copied over and the computer restarted for the first time it hangs on the "Verifying DMI Pool Data...." section, both drives are detected fine by the Bios however it hangs at this point.
If i unplug the secondary drive the primary drive will boot as normal, and if i unplug the primary drive the secondary drive will boot as normal (XP is on it as a test)
So i know that the drives work fine, and under XP will both boot together however for some reason under Vista the boot ini or boot record dont seem to allow the use for Dual HDD's to run.
This causes me some problems,
A) the 80gb drive holds all my data which is annoying as i can access it B) i really like vista and dont want to change back to XP now
Any help appeciated.
