Help: Hard Drive Issues
Now I have a 700X that has XP, can I take a "ghosted" second hard drive from the XP system and install it the ME system as the master drive (for disaster issues) and will it run despite of the XP registration restrictions that are dedicated to my original XP system? Now, I know that the initial hardware issue may

Just put grub/lilo or whatever on your first disk in normal fashion, leave M$ on the first disk, and put Linux on the second disk. Works fine. Cheers! jim b. Go into Device Manager and uninstall the Secondary Ide Channel. Let WinXP reinstall it. While you there uninstall the Secondary Hard drive. Did you run a diagnostic utility from Seagate? Drives H & I were on secondary. I will reload Windows 98 on the new primary. Here is the question: When I setup the new HD configuration I will have the primary drive C and the secondary drive will now be identified (under Windows I believe it identifies each logical drive in order) as drive D & E. Presently,

Now that the partitioning scheme on the first hard drive appears reasonable, I am moving on to other issues. I added the following lines to /etc/fstab. /dev/hdb5 /home/windows vfat defaults 0 0 /dev/hdb6 /home/music vfat defaults 0 0 The second of the two lines worked fine and I could play the MP3s on the partition

I couldn't get the stinking hard drive to come up with a Win98 startup disk, so I put it as a secondary on a Win2K machine and reformatted it FAT32. It still won't come up with the startup disk. The disk won't go through the full sequence. Any issues here I should be addressing?

We would still like to run OS9 (or OSX?) on the 80GB IBM drve since it runs way faster. The firmware on the Sonnet card is 3.12. Will it run OSX very well?, or stick with OS9.22? Can we put OSX on the second hard drive connected to the Sonnet card and leave OS9 on the 4.3 hard drive?

My question: Are there known issues with saving files from NTFS hard drives onto a hard drive that is FAT32 (and then back)? I know NT Server doesn't support FAT32, but the files seem to copy OK-something just isn't right. File systems determine how the 1s and 0s that make a file are located on the hard drive and

Also not good (or at least, "undefined") is what happens when shared devices no longer exist, eg when a second hard drive is removed. In the past 2 months, I've tried installing SuSE 8.2 on my system's second hard drive. At first, I had an old 7 GB drive, which turned out to be pooched. So I got rid of it, and replaced it with a bright, shiny, new 30GB puppy made by Maxtor. Ok. New hard drive, tested out, drive works fine. No problems whatsoever.
